Containers sized for weight, not just volume

Shingles fill a box by tonnage long before they fill it by volume. We size for the tear-off, drop it at the drip line, and swap it the day you call.

  • 10 or 20 yard container sized to the square footage and layer count
  • Placement at the drip line on the tear-off side
  • Boards down on every residential driveway

Sound familiar?

  • A container that hits its weight limit half full
  • Boxes dropped too far from the roof, doubling the haul by hand
  • Swap-outs that take days while the crew stands down
  • Driveway damage complaints after a loaded roll-off sits for a week

Weight is the whole problem

Roofing is the one trade where the container is almost always sized by tonnage rather than by volume. Asphalt shingles run about 2.5 tons per 1,000 square feet of roof, per layer. A 2,000 square foot single-layer tear-off is roughly 5 tons — which is why a 20 yard box that looks half empty can already be at its limit, and why a second layer changes the answer entirely.

Every rental includes a tonnage allowance, and overage bills at a per-ton rate we tell you before you book, not on the invoice. Give us square footage and layer count on the quote call and we will size it so the box leaves legally loaded on the first attempt.

Placement decides how hard the day is

The best roofing placement is at the drip line on the side being torn off, close enough that shingles go over the edge and into the box rather than into a pile that gets handled twice. That usually means the driveway or a firm spot on the lawn side nearest the work.

We need about 60 feet of straight approach and overhead clearance for the lift arms — watch for low power drops and tree limbs, which are the two things that most often stop a delivery on a residential street.

Boards go under the rails on every residential drop. A loaded roofing container is among the heaviest we haul, so that is not a formality.

Storm season

Hail and wind events turn a normal week into a queue. When a storm rolls through East Texas or the metro, the crews that get containers are the ones who called early and gave us a schedule rather than a single address.

If you run storm restoration, talk to us before the season rather than during it. Standing arrangements for repeat swap-outs are easier to honor when they are planned.

What cannot go in with the shingles

Keep tear-off debris clean. Tires, batteries, paint, solvents, and anything flammable are prohibited, and a contaminated load carries a disposal charge because the landfill charges us separately for it. Shingles themselves can carry additional cost per landfill policy — we will tell you how that works for your disposal site when we quote.

Common questions

What size dumpster does a roof tear-off need?

Asphalt shingles run roughly 2.5 tons per 1,000 square feet of roof per layer. A typical single-layer 2,000 square foot roof fits a 20 yard by volume but often reaches its weight allowance first, so ask about the tonnage before you book.

How fast can you swap a full container mid-tear-off?

Same or next day in most of our service area. On a multi-day tear-off, tell us the schedule up front and we plan the swap rather than reacting to a call at 4pm.

Will the container damage the driveway?

We put boards under the rails on every residential drop, which is what makes concrete and asphalt handle a loaded roll-off fine. A loaded roofing box is among the heaviest we haul, so the boards matter more here than anywhere.
